TKP SO FAR...

The Knotted Project was established in 2013 by Natalie Morrell and Simon McElligott. Natalie and Simon met at East 15 Acting School where they both graduated with a BA Honors in Physical Theatre. Here, they discovered a shared passion for an exciting, daring and visually charged style of theatre. Together, the duo aim to bring stories alive in their engaging and unique style, transcending the boundaries of traditional theatre.

When The Knotted Project first began, the company focused on creating short, outdoor performances designed for festival audiences. These first creative processes allowed Simon and Natalie to discover a clear direction for the style of theatre they wanted to pursue as The Knotted Project. The results were two quirky short shows, ‘Cold side of the Pillow’ and ‘Footsteps’. The pieces were full of fun, energy and larger than life characters. Both, were selected to be performed at Mint Fest, Kendal's International Street Arts Festival in Summer 2013 and 2014.

After fantastic audience responses to their creative work, Natalie and Simon began to dream up their next project with aspirations to create their first full length theatrical production with the company. In Summer 2014 they were awarded a grant from Arts Council England to support their new production ‘Lonely Hearts’.

‘Lonely Hearts’ was created in Autumn 2014 and then went on a regional tour of theatres in Cumbria and Lancashire in 2015. It was a huge success, with audiences of all ages loving the show which explored a couple's struggle to find love online.

As well as creative work, The Knotted Project do an extensive amount of educational work throughout Cumbria and the North West. Helping young people to discover physical theatre and enjoy the art in creating their own performance pieces. The Knotted Project have worked as emerging artists at The Brewery Arts Centre and delivered various educational programmes there.

But what does the future hold for The Knotted Project? The duo are continuing to pursue creative projects and to work towards new productions. They are also exploring collaborations with other companies and working with new practitioners assisting on movement direction for other professional shows.

The Knotted Project are now very proud to be Associate Company at The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster and are currently developing 'The Profession'.
